y do people always say rap isnt music it is music like this question i saw he said listen to christian music and rap isnt music wat? rap is music urs isnt music its like praying with a guitar in the backround now thats not music!

Reply:Ah the church being against black music. That has always been a long tradition since the slave days. The drums where bad back in the day, as that was the way most Africans communicated. Than there was gospel music, the church said it was the devils music. Rock and roll the devils music( because rock is just delta blues music).





Some people just don't like it. Listen to Grand master flash, hear how innovative he was, fish person to scratch.

Reply:blah. we all have our own opinions, and i personally think hiphop is music. great music. its not all about girls, sex, and drugs. you have very concious artists out there like common, talib kweli, etc. the only problem is that all those people that say rap is crap have only listened to rap on the radio. if you would give it a chance and listen to the pioneers of hiphop. such as eric b and rakim, slick rick, tribe, etc. then you would realize how great this music really is. its not only the old stuff thats good either, you have very talented mcs right now that get overlooked because they dont rap about killing someone or fuking tons of women. you never hear any screamo talking about empowerment of people. its always about killing themselves or taking drugs. but many rockers dont realize it because they dont listen to what the singers are saying. they are just listening to the guitars and drums and sh1t. so all those rockers are hipocrites, saying that all rap is about drugs and women, while their music is just as bad. but to answer your question, yes hiphop is music. the hiphop thats not on the radio at least.

Reply:HNIC is right about ignoring those type of questions. The problem is with that label "music" - what does that even mean- is a cricket music? Damn a label, do you like listening to it? Thats good enough. Anything else is just blah blah blah.
Reply:Rap music is music, but its only good music if its done by REAL African American artists who have LIVED what they are rapping about.


If you have a guy who is rapping about shootings in the streets, seeing discrimination, poverty, the Black Panthers, etc, yet he went to an all white school, lives in a mansion, his parents are doctors/lawyers, he is only rapping to rebel against his family, which I think is disrespectful to TRUE hip hop/rap performers.


And, if I may, I really enjoy rap/hip hop/african american culture/people and am empathetic to their situations and the way white people (and, yes, I'm white) treat them.

Well I think people say that because most of today's rap sounds the same and talks about the same thing: girls, cars, drugs, rims and all that bullsh*t. But if they took the time to listen to real rap they might change there minds. Either way that's not going to stop me from listening to rap.
