I have a different taste in music each month, is this a mental problem?

I used to ONLY like classic music, hating all other music. Then I ONLY liked jazz music, hating all other music (except classic music.) Two years after this jazz phase I learned to like some 60s music, but hate everything else other than these three genres. Then I learned to like goth music, hating jazz, but still liking classic music and 60s music. Then I moved onto alternative rock, then classic rock. At this pont I accepted all music other than country, pop, and rap.

Now I am at a new point were I like disco, pop, some rap, and some country, but I also like goth, emo, metal, jazz, and classic music.

If other words, now I accept all music, but hate some bands I once loved like Evanescence...

My opinion changes every few months. I love one band to the point of an obbsession, then I hate that band and move onto a different genre.

Right now my favorite singer is K Minogue, will I hate her next month?

Is this all a mental problem were I can't make uo my mind?

It's not a mental problem at all, just changing tastes. Go with it.
Reply:I dont believe its mental I like different types of music when my mood changes. Different music is good.

Reply:uhh... no, it's called being a teen and finding out what your tastes in music are.

Wedding Music?

I am getting married in 3 months time - and trying to sort out music.

I have a list of songs I would like played for the reception (a mix of my favs, OH favs, and general music to keep others happy - including some Scottish tunes, since we are Scottish)

The thing is, I just want to know at what other points music should be played. I have the following thoughts (civil wedding):

1. walking up aisle.

2. during time of registry signing

3. back up aisle

4. a CD perhaps while we have photos taken and guests are doing nothing but waiting?

5. first dance

6. evening reception music.

Do you think I have it all covered?

Also any ideas on up and down aisle music? I love The Cure, Duran Duran, Roxy Music, The Cult, ABBA (I do i do i do??? - muriels wedding style??), Depeche Mode, Echo and The Bunnymen - that kind of music - so I don't want Celine Dion and stuff. Any ideas???

Wedding Music?
The amount of music is about right. I would definitely have some music for guests while they are waiting. Is it all at the same venue or are you having a registry office wedding then on to somewhere else after? I had mine in one place (manor house) and found the time between photos and meal starting people got a bit bored but luckily my hubbys uncle plays saxaphone and did an impromptu set!!!

One of my fave songs is Lovecats by The Cure. And I love cats so I think you should have that when signing the register!

I love a wedding. Can I come?

Good Luck and remember to HAVE FUN!!!
Reply:Fire Woman,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

I have performed around 130 wedding ceremonies (religious). I'd like to offer some suggestions in answer to your questions.

Yes, you do have it all covered - and it's great you asked so far in advance.

If your wedding is going to be videoed, you don't want the hard-driving music. The hard music will override any other sound on the video.

If you like Abba, I'd suggest going only with Abba music. Pick different Abba tunes for different portions of your wedding. Their music is soft enough to hear other sounds of your wedding. I'm not a big Abba fan, but it would definitely suit your purpose.

I did a wedding last year and the couple had Enya's Orinoco Flow played as they walked down the aisle following the ceremony. It surprised everyone (including me), but it worked. Nothing like slowly walking up the aisle with everyone hearing, "Sail away, sail away, sail away...."

I wish you all the best in your wedding, and in your future life together.

Reply:If you are having a sit down dinner reception, you may want to think about what will be played while everyone is eating.
Reply:hi, congratulations first. I had the following songs for my wedding.

1 walking down the stairs :spente le stelle- emma chapplin

2 dancing: Could I ever have this kiss... Whitney houston and Enrique Iglesias,

I also recommend you A moment like this from Kelly Clarkson and Say A little Prayer from Aretha Franklin.
Reply:7. The last dance of the evening.

We went to a wedding this weekend and for the last dance they played the cheesy 70's song "Still The One". When the song started, I though "ugh". But you know what? It was really great. All of the couples at the wedding got up and danced. The grandparents, the parents of the bride and groom - - everyone thinking about their own wedding, I think. And it was a happy, dancey song, so the singles got up and danced, too. It was really a warm and happy way to end the evening.

History of music project?

I'm doing a project about the history of music in the past 50 years, it is based around rock music, but including the styles of music that have crossed into the rock genre, also including the influences of certain bands...

There's a lot of stuff that I'm not familiar with, British psych-folk, Krautrock, Northern Soul, and anything that was popular globally but not in the US.

I'm also exploring the lesser known music that goes into avant-garde territory, and the lesser known bands that wound up influencing the more mainstream artists.

Hip hop, rap, R%26amp;B, disco Country, folk, etc, one hit wonders, and including pop music too.

This is a time capsule of 50 years of music that's going to be 10 DVD discs.worth of music plus 5 just for music videos and concert footage.

What I want to do is not split it up by decades but by genres. That's the part I need help with.

History of music project?
A great place to search for artists and history is:

Reply:Can I mention The Blue Nile. Dripping with sonic perfection and melancoly. Paul Buchanan's vocals touch the extremes in songs called 'Regret' and 'Happiness'.

A major influence on Marillion as they recorded Misplaced Childhood, and Peter Gabriel went to see every UK show on the 'Hats' tour, which is evident when you listen to 'Us'.

Listen and enjoy, but for some reason, chicks don't get it.
Reply:my God! what a huge undertaking! I hope you will let me know when you're done as I'd love to see it. I guess you have to start with the blues, then move on to 50's music when white folks recorded black folks songs because radio stations wouldn't play music by blacks. most say they stole black music. they did. but it brought rock n roll to the masses. then everything gets sorta blurry, rock had a foundation to build on and went in so many different directions. undeniably, drugs had a big effect on a lot of music in the 60's, but it helped spread it in so many different directions. the 70's, in my opinion, was when rock really exploded. it was obvious by then rock was here to stay, and it shook off the bullcrap like folk and bubblegum pop and artists started making music for reasons other than selling records. this brought us bands like the velvet underground, the ramones,MX5, new york dolls. it also gave birth to some killer funk, and it's twisted sister disco, which filled the POP genre at the time. some of these 70's "unopular" rock bands ended up being the most influential bands to artists from then to now. and just as important are the british bands of the same time. while i personally believe the sex pistols are one of the most overrated bands in history, they made a difference. they took what the ramones started and brought it to england. although it always seemed to me they were more interested in the shock value, they have a solid place in history. now, the clash, they were true artists. they made a real impact on rock that is still seen today. all you have to do is listen, and you'll see what i mean. then came the 80's, and mostly a return to what will sell. hair bands. need i say more? granted, there were some great bands then, but they didn't sell. black flag, social d, x, concrete blonde, michelle shocked, sugar, bodeans, dead kennedy's, misfits, b52's, n more. but these opened the door for alternative and grunge and a renewal of punk and everything else that's not mainstream. unfortunatly,in recent history, it seems pop music is all that matters. largely due to the fact that radio is now more business than entertainment. they only play what they want you to hear. i've found that the only way to find out what is really out there in new music is to listen to satelite radio. at tenleast they're not slaves to sponsors. i couldn't even tell you how much music i've discovered on satelite radio. anyway, good luck with you're project, and remember, there is to much music coming out everyday not to at least give it a listen.
Reply:Don't overlook Zydeco and Conjunto.

I can't put music on my iPod, this is very confusing...?

Okay, my problem is weird, but I wil try my best to explain it...

I have an iPod Nano 2GB, and I've had it for about a year now. I don't get my music from iTunes, but use iTunes to organize and put my music on the iPod. Well a few months ago, I opened my iTunes just to listen to music, and all of my music was gone! But I still had it in my computer, in my Music folder, but it just was all taken of iTunes for some reason (this didnt effect my iPod, just my iTunes on the computer.) Anyways, I reloaded MOST of my music back onto iTunes, and i still have about 111MB left of space. But now whenever I plug my iPOd in to put more music on, it doens't work. It plugs in and makes that "di-ding" noise, but it won't put any of the new music files on my iPod. It's really frustrating and confusing, because I cant put any more music on even though I have space left. And I dont really want to restore it and reload the music all over again..

PLEASE help me with this it would be greatly appreciated

I can't put music on my iPod, this is very confusing...?
maybe you just need to relocate the ones you already have(the ones with the exclamation mark), double click them, then locate it

your going to have to do that for every song but as for the uploading part, call apple support(go to apple.com and it should have it there)

good luck on talking to the people there though

they're very frustrating

if even apple support doesnt work, bring it into the store and they'll tell you what to do

Rap music supporters, does your responses to my question prove that you're bias against my music?

HORRIBLE MUSIC DONT SALE

First of all, I have over 6,000 digital sales with no radio play or video play without any major label support.

I get around 400 free downloads a month.

The problem is, when you say "my music is horrible" It seems more like an attack than an opinion... Why am I selling due to ONLY word of mouth? It's not adding up. Horrible music dont sell

You call this horrible music?

1. Meaningful

2. Comical

3. Real

4. Original concepts

5. Ground breaking concepts

6. A different style of flow on every song (They haven't even heard all the songs)

7. Entertaining

10. original topics

11. controversial

Rap music supporters, does your responses to my question prove that you're bias against my music?
I think you answered your own question... I agree with the first answer.

I love all music, I just prefer rap, I lisen to well known artists aswell as unknown artists. If there music is good and the lyrics are meaningful im there.
Reply:If horrible music didn't sell, then Hurricane Chris would be working at a fast food restaraunt
Reply:Dude if you're all that, than how come you have to get on Y/A to promote and defend your music??? You should be above all this, right?? And how come you're not signed?? And not to be rude but (1) Your voice sounds like some kind of game show announcer or something. And (2) Hope you know that one chick in your photo (4th one down, standing to your right with the long black hair, and her hands up in the air) looks like a straight up dude!! Definitely a tranny dude. Or maybe you already know that. Peace.
Reply:No, actually YOU'RE the stupid one. 6,000 sales is extremely poor. Even if you were to quadrupple that, you'd still be in the lame category. I checked out your website, sorry but lyrically you're just not strong enough and your flow is extremely off. Sorry, but the truth hurts.
Reply:you just answered your own question **FOOL**... "over 6,000 digital sales"? thats horrible... proving your point that "HORRIBLE MUSIC DONT SALE"- case dismissed!!
Reply:ohhhhhhhhhh snap! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Now that I look at it, she does look like a HE! straight up!

MUSIC affecting us as a society?

i wanted to hear some opinions about this:

Can music raise questions about society's norms and values?

Examples?

I was thinking... who wouldn't question music w/ all its encouragement of violence, sex, and drugs? Although to some, this music may be a bit extreme, the music actually reflects our society. Our rising obsessions with money (materialism), sex, and drugs are all reflected in music. It has become normal for people to have premarital sex, to drink and party everyday, and to do drugs like cocaine, especially because the music constantly exposes us to it, which makes us think it's alright for us to do it. It very much sickens me. What is society heading for? O, Brave New World.... It scares me to think about the next 50 years because i know it'll be much worse.

MUSIC affecting us as a society?
Well, I'm not sure where to begin but you bring up a good question. In terms of music reflecting society, I think it goes both ways. The music that promotes violence is so popular that society reflects IT. it's kind of like they both make each other worse- the more violent society is, the more the music is about it. And the more the music is about it, the more people are influenced into thinking that that is the way they should behave.

However, I don't like to go all-out saying that the violent music is bad. because, violent though it may be, not everyone is influenced by it. People have been watching violent movies for decades and listening to violent music since the late 1980's and most people know how to separate "cool" violence in a movie or song from reality without a problem. But some people apparently do not. So basically, I guess what I'm saying is that I am against criticising the music for being violent because I think people should know better than to take the lyrics as instructions for real life. To be honest, I like a lot of rap music that talks explicitly about killing and stealing... but I know that there is a giant line between a "cool" song that makes killing seem cool and actually doing it in real life. I mean, come on!

As for society being bad and where it's going: I would point out that society has ALWAYS been full of badness and that it is an illusion to think that the present is any worse than the past. People have ALWAYS been having premarital sex (which I dont even think is a bad thing at all), murder has ALWAYS been very very very common. And drug use has also been very very very common since the dawn of man. People like to get intoxicated, they like to have sex, and they frequently kill eachother over small matters. Thats humans for ya. What are you gonna do?
