How music is "learned"?

Two possible ways by which new music is learned:

A)Are musicians expected to be able to play a given song (on music sheet) by just looking at the sheet music for the very first time

In other words, is sheet music normally played "instantly", or....

B) Do musicians play a given song fluidly ONLY after Practicing the UNIQUE set of notes that make up that given song?

I want to by which of the two ways is new music (on music sheet) learned, normally,

Thank you very much for sharing your ideas

Waylen A.

How music is "learned"?
That's a good question, Waylen, the answer depends on how difficult the music is, and how skilled the musician.

If a piece of music is easy enough to play for a particular player, it possible to do so the first time he sees it. This is called "Sight-reading." The more music experience you have, the easier this becomes in general, but beginning musicians may not be able to sight read at all. It is difficult to describe the process of reading music to someone who is not experienced in it, but reading music and playing it is a dynamic skill, like riding a bicycle.

Of course, being able to practice and rehearse a piece ahead of time makes it MUCH easier to play since you are much more familiar with it. But the process of reading and playing remains the same, whether you are playing it for the first time, or you have had time to practice it.

So I guess the answer is, "both." You have to sightread every piece of music once, but some music is easy enough that you don't have to practice it.

It is also possible to commit a piece of music to memory so that you don't need the music in order to play it. This is the same as memorizing a poem or a chapter in a book.

Well I hope that answers your question.

~Donkey Hotei
Reply:The act of playing music as you read it for the first time is called sightreading. Each musician who can read music will sightread at their own skill level. Their skill level coupled with the difficulty of the music will determine the result.

It's the same as reading words. Some people will stumble over words if given a paragraph to read aloud on first sight. However, you could give the same paragraph to a radio DJ or a television announcer and get something that probably qualifies for broadcast.
Reply:Personally, I'm very good at sight reading, which is learning the music by looking at it for the very first time. But, I've been involved in music for 20 years. If someone isn't as experienced, they may need to practice the music. If they are experienced, though, a lot of times a musician can look at a piece without practicing and already know by looking at the notes what the song is going to basicly sound like.

I need help uploading music from my hard drive to my MySpace page.?

I have followed instructions from MySpace FAQ and other sources I have found to upload music to my page. However, I want to use a music file that I purchased which is not listed in

the MySpace Music library. I purchased the song from Sony Music Store Connect, and I have contacted them, and they advised it was legal for me to use the music as background music (not for download by others) on my page. It appears that the only way to upload music is from the MySpace Music library. My song is not listed there. I need to know if it is possible to upload directly from my hard drive, where the music is stored on my computer, to my page on MySpace, and how do I do this. The file also probably needs to be converted to MP3 it is currently in the format that Sony uses. I welcome any suggestions and thanks for your helo.

I need help uploading music from my hard drive to my MySpace page.?
Yes you go to your account and you click upload music you browse your computer for the file if the song is legally yours it will upload.

Does Music Composed Via PC Music Software Have Less Respect Than Music Played By Instrumentalists In a Band?

What are your thoughts on the current technologies available for producing music? A lot of people now make music by connecting an audio keyboard to the PC and compose songs through a music program, but many don't even play the instrument, they merely input the notes they want played - Do you think making music this way is soul-less or are they on an equal footing with a musical artist who has taken the time to learn and master an instrument?

Does Music Composed Via PC Music Software Have Less Respect Than Music Played By Instrumentalists In a Band?
I guess it depends if the pc software requires you to compose with a virtual instrument. If all you have to do though is enter numerical values and then poof theres a song, yes that is lacking the talent involved with learning and playing a musical instrument.
Reply:to me and a lot of friend i know it is not we called it can music it take a lot of time to get a song right and a lot of love for music we work hard at mastering our instrument and playing them and there is a lot of soul put in to it so yes i would say it is soul-less
Reply:yes totaly it doesnt make music feel reel it doesnt teke talent
Reply:It's like cheating. My boyfriend has studied guitar since he was six and can play amazingly, but when a computer can create the same things he can... it takes all the value out of it. Like he wasted all that time studying for nothing.

How do you keep Music on your iPod but delete it off of your PC?

I have one problem: I have about 12 GB of priceless music on my hardrive that is also all on my iPod. I transfer music to it using iTunes, obviously... Anyway, I am always adding new music to my collection, and because of all the other applications/media files on my computer I am running out of space. Managing the other files is not an option. I want to somehow delete all music files from my computer and have them only on my iPod. I don't use my music on my PC, I only keep it there to transfer to iPod. I know that if I delete all my music, iTunes will eventually detect that my music is missing, and sequentially delete all music from my iPod next time I connect it. Does anyone know how to keep my music on my Ipod, but not neccessarily on my PC at the same time? Help would be appreciated..

How do you keep Music on your iPod but delete it off of your PC?
yeah, that's impossible to do, like you said there, itunes will take it off your ipod if its not on your PC, but u have an Ihome or dock or something like that, u can load up Ur ipod with all the music you want then when u need to charge it, charge it off your Ihome Or Idock, that's the only way.
Reply:just delete it from ya pc
Reply:that's definately a problem.

here's my solution.

put all of the songs you like on the ipod. then delete the songs off your pc.

then get one of those wall chargers.

now you won't be able to put any more songs on, but it's a temporary fix if you

listen to mostly the same music all the time.

hope this helps.
Reply:No, you can't keep it on your iPod and sync it again without the same music on iTunes. Sorry.
Reply:no by reading your problem I don't think it is posssible I would suggest you to download music from another site the site I usually use is www.mp3raid.com. Another suggestion is that you should download it directly to your ipod and not on your pc. Both will take a long time but it will be helpful and if both doesn't work just email me. I think that you shoulkd not use iTunes

Music history paper?

I'm writing an essay on the journey of music from the beginning to ars nova. I have some basics, but If anyone knows anything on ancient music in caves, gregorian chants, some premedieval music, how Plato relates to music and works with intervals, music in mass, strophic, cadence, melisma and the beginnings of operas and musicals, please elaborate, lots of detail!

Music history paper?
You have quite a lot to get through. It might be worth reposting your question under Entertainment-Music-Classical. I don't think anyone knows anything about music in caves. The Classical ancients (Greeks and Romans for example) are known to have had instruments like trumpets, drums and plucked instruments akin to a lute, but we have no real idea what it sounded like - although some have tried to reconstruct it. Gregorian chant was introduced by Pope Gregory (natch!). You ask for the history of music up to ars nova - which was in the late middle ages up to about the time of Guillame de Machaut who wrote the first composed Mass we know of ' the Mess de Nostre Dame'. The history of opera and musicals falls well outside your period. I suggest that as you want such a vast subject covered you would be better doing some more research yourself - trying googling 'history of music' and the various heading you list

Music files saved on harddrive through itunes, can these same files be managed in another music mgmt system?

My husband has downloaded a lot of music through itunes on our harddrive. I don't have an ipod, but, I have the same thing made by Sony. The music management system is called MusicMatch Jukebox. Musicmatch Jukebox is the software that manages all the music files and allows me to download to the Sony Digital player. Even though the songs downloaded on the harddrive through itunes are saved in our harddrive, it does not seem that I can Open the Music Match jukebox and add these songs into the musicmatch library. Does itunes restrict that these songs can be played in any other software other than itunes?

Music files saved on harddrive through itunes, can these same files be managed in another music mgmt system?
The songs downloaded in ITunes are in a format called AAC, which is an Apple format, and not the usual MP3. The other programs can't recognize the music files unless you convert them to MP3 or another format that they will recognize. You can search for programs to download that will convert music files, a lot of them are free. Try www.download.com.

Playing music to your little bundle of joy :)?

Wow...this is my first question and i've been on here for so long! Feel's weird to be on the other side.

Anyway, I'm 28 weeks pregnant. I got headphones for christmas to go around my belly to play music, and i also got a lullaby CD to play. My questions are:

1. What have your experiences been playing music to your unborn child? How did they react when you played the music for them while carrying (their movements within) and then after they were born, playing the same songs?

2. How often did you play them music and how long were the periods of time? Did you play them music while you worked?

3. What types of music did you play for them, or what types do you reccomend?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Playing music to your little bundle of joy :)?
I play my music slightly louder in the car (for some reason I feel that I have to for the baby to hear, although I could be completely wrong; smile) - whenever I do, the baby moves around a lot more. She likes to dance to music with a good beat, nothing boring. Although she likes a good jazz song here and there. Congrats and good luck!
Reply:It doesn't matter what type of music you play, its all gibberish to them for now :P I played music for my daughter all the time. pretty much played the same some over and over and she would always get active and start kicking like mad. After she was born I would play the song and she would settle down. She definitely recognized the song.
Reply:play some behemoth
Reply:1. My daughter really locked country and rock music. She still rocks out the same music I listened to then and she is 5

2. I played the music when I was driving ( I had a cd player and headphone I would put on my belly) and at night when I went to bed. I was on my feet while working so I couldnt really do it then.

3. I played country music alot of the time and I did through in some light rock, also some soothing hawaiian music ( I am a hawaiian dancer)

Real Music Isn't About Money. Don't side with the RIAA?

I know we have all been conditioned to believe that music = loads of money and fame for the artist and record company. I know some of you think that if the industry doesn't make money.. music will cease to exist. Well I hate to inform you that recorded music is a fairly new thing in the course of human history and music was around far far far longer than these greedy corp record labels. Music used to be about feeling and mood and not about greed. Composers from days before records made their living playing to a live audience. That's how artist should make their bread and butter. Everything else should be promotion for their performances.

You want the RIAA to fall into it's rightful grave? It's easy to get rid of these bastxrds. Just stop spending your money on major label bands/groups... and stop downloading their music. Don't give them a reason to exist. Fxxk big record companies! Talent is around you not just on TV and Radio. Support local and independent artist.

Real Music Isn't About Money. Don't side with the RIAA?
I agree completely with you, and if the artists are worried about the money well then they are in it for the wrong reasons..they should be doing it to share their talent with everyone not to earn stupid amounts of money!

In glasgow there is some amazing talent that I'll always support for def...

i want to support artists who are really in love with music and what it does have no time for folk who just want the fame...

music will always be around whether theres money spent or not.
Reply:Not to be arrogant or a cocky bastard "but" why am i working for minimum wage???? I am a damn good musician! And these people who are doing only what these young, unexpeirienced producers wants is blackmail bullshit!

I know a lot of talent "but" it's all eye candy bullshit now" Will sing or play good enough to be noticed "but" don't ask us to give are all "because " mommy and Daddy got me where i am and **** all of you poor bastards! That's the music business today!
Reply:screw the riaa
Reply:I'm all for supporting local talent, but most of the music I like happens to be part of a major label or becomes part of a major label eventually. Even local and independant artists will jump at the chance to sign a major record deal ...
Reply:What? You mean if i get a guitar like the dude in 4th period i can play it w/o getting paid? Pishaw i say.

Its a nice dream, but EVERYTHING today is about money. Religion, music, the newspaper, phones, you cant win. God is less forced on people than the dream of easy money. If people really gave a crap about the music they put out would there be so much of the same thing out right now? Nope. All these lazy kids from the suburbs get an instument for xmas, putsomething on youtube, and voila. Instant one hit wonders. I miss the bands w/ staying power. Muddy waters would be so ashamed of everyone. Im with you though, thats why i steal all my music.

PS the ones w/o talent are the ones on the TV and radio . . . .
Reply:You can't stop people from making live albums, or from charging to see a concert. Don't hate the players, hate the game.

You, sir, have been conditioned to believe that lawless is better than organization. I firmly disagree. Just because the RIAA is screwing us in charge doesn't mean we don't need some organization. There has to be some legal way to hold the RIAA accountable.

If you control the environment around where a band plays - say Red Rocks, the Royal Albert Concert Hall, or even a war memorial site - there is an expectation of service that is met. You cannot disclaim the live set simply as promotion. It can be even more complicated than the studio. If the program sucks, people will not pay to see it elsewhere, or even walk out as it is playing. That is something you can't take away.

Stop downloading! That's what's killing the industry. The RIAA is crooked, but at least there's an industry standard to have people listen to an ENTIRE album instead of a myriad of hodgepodge, art-free, poorly recorded potty-mouthed singles. At the rate we're generating cookie-cutter singles and nameless bands, albums like Pink Floyd's The Wall and Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime will be impossible to market.

Maybe the RIAA overvalues themselves much, but deregulating is worse. Buy an album - feed an artist.
Reply:I hate to tell you buddy but if big record labels weren't around you wouldn't know even a quarter of the bands that you have come to love. I hate all these kids that are like "down with corporate music" when thats what brings the music to you. If you live in a shitty town then there might not be any good local bands like you're referring to. And not every one has the loot, time, or means of transport to get to company sponsored concerts. And yes music has been around since the dawn of time practically but the time has changed and the means to produce music costs money. Everything costs money one way or another. As far as composers making their money playing live; Some bands sound like garbage when the play live and their recorded stuff is great. It's all how perceive it. And if a band is f**king awesome and making millions then so be it, they made it there through hard work. The ONLY thing I agree with you on is the price of albums. Cut the prices in half, everything is better cheaper and at the same quality but other than that I think your'e quite naive to the world and reality you live in.

Music practice demands discipline, how do you get it?

music demands concentration and being single minded for the time you're practicising, but as soon as one sits down to practice, there is always something else that needs to be done. and there is never enough time in the day and before you know it the day has gone and there's been very little practice if any, help. Are there any courses in melbourne which train you to really focus on music skills and perfect and having the patience to repeat and repeat the same piece till it's nearly perfect whether its on guitar or piano.

This is the biggest challenge for me because I had no music training as a child and i am trying to teach myself piano and guitar and the discipline is just not there but i still want to perservere because thats all I want to do at this point in my life.

appreciate comments %26amp; if anyone knows of a course out there whether on internet or in Melbourne Australia which really trains one to focus %26amp; concentrate on music and music only sincerely welcome feedback thankyou

Music practice demands discipline, how do you get it?
I trained as a singer but I was at performing arts college so I had to practice

The main thing is to really enjoy it - I refused to sing opera at college even though the heads of music wanted me to. I only sang stuff that I loved and ended up in two Broadway shows

I think you need to get a really good private teacher to go to once a week. They will motivate you and keep you on track
Reply:PASSION
Reply:If you don't already have the discipline it takes - then do something else.

Music affect on teens 2?

i asked this question already. what i meant by it not having an affect was that it does not drive a person to suicide. if someone commits suicide while they are listening to music. then ok. it doesn't mean the music is to blame. music is one of the best ways of expression and communication. an artist rights a song about how hes feeling, some kids gets pissed off and listens to the song, he feels better. people listen to music according to mood. if someone committs suicide then there was obviously something wrong with that person. i don't like saying it but its the truth. i've had three friends commit suicide in the past 4 yrs. but the thing is that people need to connect better. people relate to music so well because they listen in accordance to their mood or how they feel.

Music affect on teens 2?
I agree with you....technology has brought forth so many new and different "things"...

and with those "things" come people who will always abuse them and make them seem bad

example:

Internet (MySpace)---the kiddie porn fest

Driving Cars---the drunk drivers paradise

television---poisoning young minds with violence (hello, does anyone ever watch the news?)

music evolution---(rap, metal and alternative) making our youngster violent and angry (you damn right!)

I think as individuals we should all take responsibility for ourselves and quit blaming other factors on the way things are....cause we can change it ---if we wanted to

Does music define your generation; or does your generation define your music?

What I am trying to get at here, is that musical style and substance changes radically from generation to generation and year to year. For instance I really like the music of the mid to late '60's right through to the late '90's. Most of today's music sounds like CRAP to me: Saliva, Godsmack, any rap ghetto music, so called R%26amp;B, but lots of people do like that stuff.

So, has music defined your generation or has your generation defined your music?

Does music define your generation; or does your generation define your music?
music today is like all rap and hip-hop and the cool kids are always gansters so I guesse that music has difined my generation wich sucks cause I like classic rock!!!

thanks hope this helps
Reply:I definitely think your generation defined your music. There comes a point in your life where record label execs. don't really care if you like the music anymore because you're not that hot 18-25 demographic that has all of the disposable income.
Reply:Both are right.

It'll be a bit long to explain this.

Every Society has Culture right?

by influence of the last culture and based on the situation and condition of the surroundings to the people, the specific people of new generation create a new culture, and so on, and on.

The culture has 7 part or also called system, that is:

Art, Religion, Law, Language, Economic, Social, Technology.

(The Art include Music)

OK, I'll give you a simple example.

If since child your parents give you alot of sweet foods - probably because of the culture that your parents has, have a sweet food in it (fact. Javanese food are all sweet using black sugar), then you'll get used to sweet food right? this is when the culture effecting You.

Offcourse since this, if you taste a new food that wasn't sweet, you'll say that it's not good, but if it's sweet you'll say it's good

Then when you get older, the scientist found out that chilly are good for health, then when you found that out, you try to use as much as chilly in your food, that's create a new culture of food that's sweet and hot. this is when the people create new culture.

You child would have that new culture, and will create new culture based on your culture and by the situation and condition when they're older. and so on.

So wich define wich? they're defining eachother.

Not only music, but the whole art, and even the whole culture.

when you say that a melody are good, that's based on your experience music listening, and when you create a new kind of music, that's also by the influence of your music before that, and also by the situation and condition surrounds you that times.

Ofcourse that you can't accept the younger music then yours, since they were created by the generation after you.

The newer generation learn from your culture, while you learn from your parent's culture not from the new culture.

So it's naturally that you can't accept the new music while the youth can accept yours.

As if in the food example above, you'll like both sweet and hot food, while your parents like sweet food but not hot one.

p.s. remember, there's always a minority report that's cotrary to the theory.

Hope This help

Bless You
Reply:PEOPLE TRY TO PUT US DOWN!!*talkin bout my generation*

Nahh... you can like music from anytime anywhere. Technically, music defines your generation. The way one acts in such and such time relates to the music. Par Example-

In the 80's , people wore clothes and acted differently then people in the 70's because the type of musical tastes change. I dont like the bands now a days either. I go back-70's, 60's-thats my thing
Reply:I think I understand what you are trying to say, nowadays most music is ******** comercial, I like 70 80, guns roses, queen ac dc, classical rock... that was music.

So I think my stupid generation has defined stupid music, It would have been a nice music experience to born before.
Reply:I personally think music defines the generation. Because we, the "people" of the generation are the ones that make the music. It all depends on "our" [the people of the generation] thoughts of whats going on. Not all music has gone to waste though. Something to remember is that music depends on the person. It wasn't made to just please one certain type of person. But it also wasn't made to ignore those who don't like that type of music. Music is different in everyone. Times change is what, I guess, the point in this answer is.

Music Rip From DVD?

A friend of mine burnt me a dvd with some music on it but everytime I try to copy the music onto my computer I get an error

Works fine on my dads pc I honestly don't have a clue what the problem is. And I do not use any decryption software or anything like that on my dads pc the dvd works fine just as it is, the only difference between our computers in terms of music that I know about is that he has i-tunes and rhapsody and maybe some others but I'm not sure

Music people/piano people can you tell me characteristics about this song?

major or minor scale?

is there harmony?

consonance or dissonance?

CONSONANCE: Harmonies understood in a certain music consuming culture to be pleasing. In most Western music cultures music is considered to be consonant when it uses predominantly intervals called thirds, perfect fourths, perfect fifths, and sixths

DISSONANCE: Harmonies understood in a certain music consuming culture to be displeasing. In most Western music cultures music is considered to be dissonant when it makes frequent use of intervals called seconds, diminished fifths, and sevenths.

I think that people try and put blame on things other than take responsibility for their actions, or lack thereof. ("Excuses are like buttholes, everyone has one.") If a parent doesn't want their child to listen to certain music, they shouldn't allow their child to listen to it. BUT, I do feel that parents that want music their children listen to censored, are really insecure about their parenting skills and how they have raised their child/children. If parents feel like their child will be 'brainwashed' or strongly influenced by (rap) music, they obviously have issues within their own minds and perhaps are picking on anything (such as rap music) to try and cover up their own weaknesses.
Reply:All crap music should be censored. It makes people ask the same questions over and over.

Limewire music to Window media player?

I need to start over from scratch. I am using way too much hard drive space doing it this way. I get a download from Limewire then I place it on my desktop in a a file I named 'new music'. Then I open Media Player and 'add folder'-'new music'. Then once it's added to the Library. I take and highlight 'new music' and add it to another file on my desktop named 'All music'. I do this to have another copy of EVERY song I everdownloaded from Limewire. What am I doing wrong? I don't want to lose any of my music, but I feel I'm losing valuable hard-drive space by doing it this way. How can I move and keep my existing music to a different area/folder? I don't want to have to put all my music onto many discs to do this either. Please give me a better way. Thank you who have honest answers.

Limewire music to Window media player?
You did not mention which media player you use, but for playing music I find winamp the best one.

Most hard drives are being partitioned in more than one drive. (c:/, d:/ etc.). What you shold do is, make a directory on your 2nd hard drive (d;/) and call it for example Limewire downloads. Then change in Limewire options, the directory in the one you just created. Now limewire will automaticly copy the music etc you download in directory d:/ Limewire downloads. This way your music is always safe, even when you have to format your pc for one reason or the other or when you uninstall Limewire. Your music is safe. You could of course leave your music in this directory, but better is to make also a directory in d;/ , called new music. Now you can copy the music you want to keep and to listen to to that directory Asume you are going to use winamp. Go to Music library. There you see playlists. You make your own new playist and call it new music. (rightclick on playist and then new playist). When done so, click on that playlist (new music). Of course it is empy, but now you can transfere the music you download and stored in d:/ New Music to the winamp playist called new music. You can now delete all lthe music stored in Limewire Downloads. Every time you download new music, you transfere them to the new music directory on d:. Looks all very complecated, but is not. After you have done it once, it becomes even more easy.

Good luck.
Reply:Compress the file using winzip or winrar. This will reduce harddrive space. This is only a backup copy and you don't need to convert it time and again back again to original format.

Music and more music -- some informative and helpful suggestions, please.?

I am a music lover. I am not in my early 20's. This love of music --listening only -- since I do not play any instrument is making me think twice that with all the new "gadgets" flooding the market I could buy an instrument, practice and play at the same and listen to music I like while playing and contributing. Given those conditions what would be an instrument to look for (synthetiser, karoaka or others --) that will give me a good opportunity to play and listen --as a hobby. Best answers and helpful guidance appreciated. I do love the sound of a guitar or jazz music -- conclusion all my own music making will be for myself. No spectators are envisaged. The learning curve should be "relatively short" and price of the instrument affordable. Looking for your excellent suggestions, thanks in advance.

Music and more music -- some informative and helpful suggestions, please.?
If you buy a keyboard that has midi, you can record songs on your computer. you can also make different sounds of instruments.

Hope this helps!!
Reply:Guitar and keyboard will be the best option for instrument that match your desire (you'll need to study a bit, but for a fundamental level, this two are easy enough to learn by a self-help book).

Any keyboard this days has midi output and input to plug to Computer, While you can plug electric guitar/accoustic guitar with a mic to your computer if you have an adeguate Sound card.

And there are computer software that'll help:

* Finalle or Sybellius: for writing music by notation and sounded by soundcard - midi;

* Cakewalk - Sonar or Cubase: for recording with mic-electric guitar/synthesizer-keyboard and add some midi either by note or by graphic, etc.

If you don't know music notation very well i would advice you to use the Cakewalk-Sonar Home Studio

Hope this Help

Study music 5 years or something else?

I´m 25 years old, live in sweden, always dreamed of becoming a concert pianist. I´ve been fighting to get aproved at the music university, and know I have been aproved into a music teacher´s program. I feel I don´t want to be a teacher, can´t see a future in it for me. I like music but it´s hard to find work as a music teacher and the profesion gives a bad salary, and not many posssibilities to find work outside sweden. It scares me to have a bad economy ´cause I´ve seen loved ones having bad economy. I want to have oportunities, good salary, be able to work in USA, Spain, latinamerica, be able to help people in need. I´am creative, honest, caring I fight for what I believe in. I used to believe in music not anymore. It feels like nobody told me what I would face as a music teacher, I ve discovered it myself. I´m begining to feel old and I´m in love with a girl in USA. I like to become a good father/ husband someday. my music studies starts 27 august. There is more I would like 2 say

Study music 5 years or something else?
I've always believed that you should do what makes you happy. I'm a disc jockey for a radio station in America, and it was my dream job from the time that I was little... Now I'm living it, and it's not all I thought it would be (lying, caniving, etc just like a normal work place).

I'd personally reccommend anyone that is doing something for a career just becuase it is their dream to try to do it as a hobby (just do it on the side rather than needing it to be your MAIN source of income). This is especially applicable in this situation. You can always play the piano and even teach kids or others to play it on the side (just put an ad in the newspaper and you should get some interested people). Be careful choosing it as your main source of income though becuase you may grow to hate it, or at least not love it as much after you do it for a while.
Reply:Do not believe in just music, try believing in the music that u make.

And did u studied music to make money? the way i see u are not a good artist. artists do not care about the money they get by selling their music.

Music Business for Games?

Ok,

I'm actually getting into this now. Then a thought came to me regarding the project's completion and money. I really don't know much about how music for games is organized on a payment level but from what I know:

*Almost all music for games are Work for Hire

*Music for games is not monitored by any P.R.O. (Performance Rights Org.)

Presently, I'm organizing a music pack for developers based on RPG games. I'm having a little trouble on the marketing strategy. I was thinking about charging $50.00 (or mabe $100 (they're getting 27 1 to 2 minute tracks + 18 fanfares and bonus voice materials) for the entire thing for independent developers but my problem comes with commercial, bigger business developers. What would be a suitable price to set for all this or should I price each track individually when it comes to commercial businesses? What's a suitable price? Well renound composers can charge $10,000 per minute of game music. Since I'm not renound, would about $3,000 per minute sound ok? Also considering that I'm not doing these in surround sound yet.

I also read that it's recommended that composers ask for additional payments when their music gets utilized in different platforms and in ancillary areas (commercials, movie trailers, motion pictures, soundtrack albums, etc.)?

Passion for classical music (as well as others)?

Do you perceive any difference in the way you play or listen to classical music versus popular music? Do you feel sensuality with classical music or is it largely analytical? For example, have you heard Yo Yo Ma play Bach Prelude from Cello Suite? Vladimir Horowitz play Chopin Etude In C Minor? Amazingly sensual to listen to .... Since I don't play cello, I wouldn't know how Yo Yo Ma feels playing the Suite. And Vladimir? He's passed, but he was a virtuoso! I love Itzack Perlman, Joshua Bell, and Michael Jones, cellist. Anyone listen and feel the sensuality of the classical music? I am not sure the status of music interests nowadays, whether people still listen at all to classical music (except for majors). Of course, classical music alone can't suffice. One needs a variety, but I am just wondering whether someone out there really loves classical music and whether you believe the nature of classical music is best expressed analytically. Thanks.

Passion for classical music (as well as others)?
i am a music major in college, so naturally i love it. I started playing the piano after kindergarten because I had a Beethoven CD that I loved. Right now I really like Puccini's and Mozart's operas. I love Beethoven's symphonies and sonatas, and rachmaninoff's piano concertos.

To answer your question, I think in order to or perform the music you need to be able to understand it enough to analyze it, but you don't need that to enjoy it. I loved classical music before I knew a thing about it. I love it more now, but that could be because of a higher understand or more exposure.

I enjoy performing Bach on the piano and his chorale works, but I have never enjoyed watching anyone perform his work. I think that may be because you have to analyze every note when you are performing it, but when you watch it you just listen to it. I enjoy performing and watching mozart and beethoven, because not only is their music just as perfect, but it is filled with passion. All different periods, but still the same concept.

Sorry my answer was kinda all over the place.
Reply:On feeling music it's sensuality, I dont think it gets any better than Gustav Mahler. His name isn't brought up in most circles as much as Bach, Beethoven or Brahms, but his syphonies are GUTwrenching. So much that many critics think of his work as over-emotional.

I disagree, though. I heard Symphony No. 1 (no2 is my fave) in concert once and just bawled after it was over.

But to answer your last question, classical music is not best expressed analytically. If a piece interests you, then great. If it doesn't, you may learn to appreciate it later.
Reply:If you have a passion for classical music, leave the analyzing out of it! I have an extensive collection of classic CD's, and my 2 top favourites for raising goose bumps is the Hallelujah Chorus (Handel's "Messiah") and the 1812 Overture, by Tchaikovsky using real cannons and church bells. Knocks the spots off the junk produced nowadays!

Are elementary specialist music teachers highly regarded in your country ? (not instrumental music teachers )?

******** please note: please DON"T answer nonsense or anything weird/abusive, just to get points because I will report you. GENUINE ANSWERS ONLY%26gt; THANKS*******

In Australia (New South Wales, especially), the ed department DOES NOT employ specialist music teachers in primary/elementary schools. They only employ high school music teachers. In fact, according to them, music as a subject 'does not exist' in primary schools. Vert few primary schools have classroom music teachers - those teachers are NOT funded by the ed department. each school has to apply for special funding to pay these teachers if they want music teachers.

I wonder what the situation is like in your country? are music teachers highly regarded there, especially primary/elementary specialist music teachers?

Research shows that music is so important and can help in other learning but yet, it's not given the importance in primary schools. What is your opinion about this, especially if you live in Australia?

thank

Are elementary specialist music teachers highly regarded in your country ? (not instrumental music teachers )?
In the United States, most elementary schools have a 1x/week music program for their students. Some also have additional music choices such as after-school choir, etc. Our elementary music teachers take a specialized degree in music education, and focus on basic theory and coding, exploration of instruments and genres of music, rhythm skills, and song.

Research has shown the great benefit of music in building student learning skills.

Reply:In the U.S. many schools cut out music. A lot of those that do have it, only hire a part time teacher; then they don't have to pay benefits. Report It

Reply:I teach instrumental. Music is not highly regarded as a school subject, but in my state, kids have music 2-3 times per week for 30-45 minutes on average. It is one of the first things cut in budget dilemnas.

Cannot watch music videos?

I am using windows XP, when I try and watch music videos I am not able to. I have allowed *launch.yahoo.com, *music.yahoo.com, launch.yahoo.com, launchtoday.launch.music.yaoo.com, mv.us.music.yahoo.com %26amp; mvp.music.yaoo.com to my allowed websites.Once I select a video another smaller window appears, I can see the commerical but after that I cannot see or hear the music video. Cannot watch music videos?
I am not much of a computer nerd, but try refreshing your computer. Or go on singingfish. It works for people whohave trouble with music players. It is a very easy site, and it requires no pay. As far as I could remember I didnt have to sign in on it or anything.

Hope my answer is helpful for you.

Copying music?

I copied music on to a disc so i could tranfer my music from wmp11 on to my laptop the music copied but the track and artist and also album covers didnt copy..Each track had been download from a music download site. I have all the information on my desktop running windows xp.My laptop has vista.I connected to the internet when i played disc on my laptop it give me the information but it didnt save it,I copied the music from the music folder on my desktop. What did i do wrong.Do i have to insert all media information manually.I did try to search for each track but it took ages to do this.I dont have a wireless network yet ,will have soon i was told i could transfer that way.if i used bluetooth transfer would i need one for my laptop as well.I have a mobile phone that has bluetooth and i have transferd music from my desktop to that .I know the soloution is probebly quite simple, but am new to computing so am learning as i go.

Copying music?
Not all data is contained in the metadata in the file. Some is maintained within the actual playlist. You will have to reenter it again if the file is copied to another computer.

You can see what is actually maintained in the metadata by choosing details view in a folder. Right click on the heading and select the fields you want to see.

BTW: The track and artist is there but the album cover is not.
Reply:The best way to transfer music is via a network cable but if you use nero to burn your music to disk i would recomend writing it in data format so all the info could go allong with the music, this can also be configured in the [nero] preferances.
Reply:If you know the name of the song, just right-click and rename the track whatever you want on the new format.
Reply:Unless it is a professional disc like from a recording company, it won't record that stuff. You will just have to do it manually, sorry.
Reply:what you did wrong was get a Vista, unfortunately we are also stuck with one... okay if you are downloading it for free, then the website probably doesn't have the information, if you are getting it off your CD, then you can probably rip it and get the information from there, there's lots of things... XP is the best!
Reply:Hi,

What you did wrong is just copy the MP3 tracks and not the Whole downloaded files, use "Nero 7" to copy over your Music files to DVD and it will copy the lot for you, if you want any help with your Wi-Fi network please just ask.

Can u move music from ipod to computer?

i think i acidentally deleted all my music on my computer when trying to move my music to another computer. but my Vista is messed up %26amp; i cant find my music i tried to move. so now my music is lost on my computers %26amp; i cant find it. i only found the music i bought from itunes which is only 10 songs out of my 400 songs. however, somehow i still have all my music on my ipod nano (the old one). many of my songs were from limewire %26amp; cds borrowed from friends that i lost contact with, so it would b very very hard to get all my music the same as it was. i kno theres a way to sync, but thats put songs on computer to ipod, which i dont want cuz it would erase the music on my ipod.

so is there any way to put my music on my ipod onto my computer??????? please help!!! thanks soo much!!!!!!

Music videos of the 90s were the greatest and far better off than the Music videos of today would you agree?

Videos like Nirvanas- smells like teen spirit, Madonnas- vogue, GNR - November rain MJ- black or white Marky Mark and the funky bunch - good vibrations and uncountable great Music videos were only made in the nineties when comparing with the sick music videos of today makes me want to think that music companies have cut down on Lavish music video rates and most of the songs as well stink along with their videos of today long live the music and the videos of the 90s

Music videos of the 90s were the greatest and far better off than the Music videos of today would you agree?
I totally agree. The videos of the 90's introduced a variety of factors into what makes a video great, for example, Snoop Dogg's video where he morphs into a dog was subtle, but excellent. He didn't take the graphics too far, as some artists do today. Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box was one of my fav's, the colors used in that video were Gorgeous! And who doesn't love Blind Melon's No Rain? That little bee girl has become a cultural icon! The problem I have with videos today is that they are pretentious and unoriginal.
Reply:yea, some, not all, but some
Reply:I think that in those days, the artists make good music and shoot music videos just or fun. Nowadays its like artists concentrate on their music videos more thn their music. It's like " Hm... my song sucks but it's ok, I'll make a great music video". Look at 50 cent and you will know what I'm talking about.
Reply:Yes.
Reply:yes Back then MTV actually showed Music Videos,
Reply:No.
Reply:I still like the bad videos of the 80's....shows how far we have come.
Reply:I don't know if it's more that the videos were better back then or it's just that SuckTV only plays the mainstream ones. There is another video channel that has shown some really good ones. It does seem that the all videos played nowadays are based on the same premise though, especially *certain genres.

My music files....wht should i do?

ohkay...i have all my music files stored in the D:/ drive(instead of C)...the music players tht i use are real player and windows music player...but lately almost everytime i try and play some music file it stops just like that...no warning no nothing. just it stops!...the 'thingy' that keeps moving when the song is playing in real player(the one tht shows how much of the song is still left) stops dead in its track. i thought there must have been a problem with real player so i uninstalled it...but the same thing happened when i tried playing the music files with windows music player. i already run virus checks on the D:/ drive on more than one occassion and its perfectly fine. wht do you suppose the problem is?

also now that i've uninstalled my real player wht do you reckon?..shopuld i just download the same again or can you suggest some other , better music playing software?

thank you

My music files....wht should i do?
The first thing you need to do is learn how to spell and use proper grammar
Reply:I love Winamp - and you can download it free. I'm sorry, I don't know much more than you do - except that Winamp works great for me! Good luck!

How music affects people to eat inside restaurants or fast food chains?

i just need this for my research paper.. i hope you guys can help me out on this......... music is one of the factors which affects human living... it affects our lifestyles and leisures...... but my question really needs the answer of how music affects people inside the restaurants or fast food chains.....

some restaurants play musics which are on the genre of pop, hip-hop, rock, classical, blues, oldies, etc.... but when this musics are played during a person eats inside the restaurants how does it affect him/her in eating his/her meal??/

do they eat faster when hip-hop, or rock music are played? do they eat slower when slow musics are played??? do they stay inside the restaurant to order some coffee because they are enjoying the music playing inside???

i hope you can help me out on this/......... thanks to all in advance!!! God Bless you all.....

How music affects people to eat inside restaurants or fast food chains?
Most restaurants research this pretty well. If you'll notice, most fast food chains now employ satellite radio, usually tuned to a station tailored to that restaurant. Subway has "Subway Radio", Chipotle has the same station tuned in at all their stores, etc. They do this so they can control the guests experience. People are paid big money to research music's affect on customers. They want the customer in and out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. This creates higher revenue for the store. You'll notice that in fast food shops, the music is always moderately-tempoed, upbeat, inoffensive pop music. This is to keep you propelled enough to eat quickly and leave, but not so attention-grabbing as to cause you to stop and listen. The other way music is used is more of a "branding" issue. I've noticed this most in Chipotle. They play a certain "type" of music, in the hopes that you'll associate that music with their restaurant. They even go so far as to sell cd's of the music they play. If they play music you only ever hear in their store, the next time you hear it, it will remind you of eating there. Once you start to pay attention, the psychological games that corporations play with your mind are astonishing.

Why is rap considered music?

Rock is considered music because IT IS MUSIC-IT'S THE MUSIC OF THE LAST CENTURY!!!!!!There was good soul music back in the day, country music is music-because it was the forefather of american music-were do u think rock comes from? From country, blugrass, and southern kinds of music!!!!!!!Rap was an experiment by gangsters in the 80's, and when the stupid white owned record labels saw that it was popular as a form of, so called music, to the urban communities-they signed who ever they could! One girl answered me last time saying thatwith out rap how could we rhyme!Your dumb, i understand that humans have always been poets, but rap is not poetry-it is lyrical manslaughter!

It sounds so identical , every song, all the time-tupac could of rapped about his kids?how he loved them, no he just talked over and over about the streets, and gang life!!!!the same for all the rest!they only make songs that will sell, cause they know what will sell-and thats smart, but making pure music no, no good!

Why is rap considered music?
all of rap isn't violent or stupid. There are other rappers that are great Will Smith and many others. Rock also has very violent lyrics. If you listen to more Rap then you will see that it's not so bad.
Reply:BECAUSE IT IS!!!!!!! JUST BECAUSE U DONT LIKE AND DONT UNDERSTAND IT DONT MEAN NOBODY ELSE DO!!!!! Y IS ROCK CONSIDERED MUSIC!?!?!?! HAVE U EVA TRIED TO SIT DOWN AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!!?? DATS WHATS WRONG WIT PEOPLE LIKE U...YALL B QUICK TO JUDGE SOMETHIN BUT DONT EVEN KNO WHAT U TALKING BOUT.....I CAN TELL U REAL IGNORANT AND SMALL MINDED BECAUSE OF THAT QUESTION.......N GO RITE AHEAD AND REPORT A VIOLATION..BECAUSE I TRULY DONT GIVE A ****..BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE U MAKE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH AND ITS SAD WE GOT PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD LIKE U..BUT WE DO......DO ME A FAVOR AND GROW UP....EARLY!!!!!!!!!!.....U BETTA BE LUCKY I CANT SAY WHAT I WANT TO SAY ON THIS SITE..BUT U KNO WAT IM GONNA B THA BIGGER PERSON AND NOT STOOP TO UR LIL LEVEL CUZ I C WHOS THE IGNORANT AND DUMB ONE....NEXT TIME U NEED TO THINK BEFORE U SPEAK....CUZ LIKE THE GOOD SAYING GOES: LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS.....
Reply:I am a hip/hop fan, while i agree some of the lyrics by some of the artist are too much. There are many that I do like. Actually Tupac is my all time favorite of EVERYTHING. If you don't listen to hip/hop and have only heard a few of his songs then yes you may only see one side. He had many MANY songs that were about love, and not about violence, drugs, and sex. If you sit back and listen to some of his music (especially some of the older stuff) you would realize that his music is not all about killing. There are some rappers who should be more responsible in what they say, but it is a free country and if you don't like it, don't listen to it. I HATE rock and country, but just because i can't stand it doesn't mean that it is not music. And many rock and country singers are collaborating with rappers, and are actually taking stuff from the hip-hop culture so that they can sell records. Whether you like it or not ALL genres take from hip/hop especially now.
Reply:because it has a beat. Everything with a Beat today is considered as Music. Hell, Even Parris Hilton is Singing. (ok, off-topic) but Rap is like the Only Way to sing, without having to use your vocals. That pretty much sucks because All they do is sing stupid stuff.... but kids these days like it... and i guess no one can stop them from producing stupid stuff... Sounds good sometimes though...
Reply:good question!?
Reply:Same goes for why is some art considered art- even if you don't like it,it is a musical expression and falls under the generalized term. That doesn't mean you have to like it- or in arts case- hang it on your wall. I hate Picasso but do see his place in history and why he is famous. But he was a jerk, a womanizer and even burned his lovers with cigs-should he have gotten fame? Many rap artists are very talented- many are not at all! I am not a rap enthusiast but like alternative and classic rock- but then I also like Celtic instrumental and country on occasion- to each his own. I just wish the person in the car next to me would be respectful enough to turn down the bass!
Reply:well if we would have known this would have happened we should have picked our own cotton
Reply:Rap is considered music because if we dared not to consider it so the fan base would claim discrimination and there would be a big negative hoopla that nobody needs so the musical establishment just threw them a cookie to keep them quiet.
Reply:open your mind and the rest will follow....
Reply:Marilyn Manson did a song with rapper DMX.

Phil Collins did a song with rap group Bone Thugs In Harmony.

Aerosmith and RunDMC.

Kenny Rogers did a song with Wyclef Jean.

Even Nelly did a country song with an artist who I can't think of.

Anyway, are you seeing my point? Those people who you claim to be "real" musicians, have made songs with rappers. If the "real" musicians can break through the stereotypes that you have shown, then you should be able to as well. If you don't like it, turn the station.
Reply:Whatever man. It's obvious you've decided for yourself. I just cant stand y'all rap haters.

Word.
Reply:Didn't you ask this yesterday? Well, I'll give the same reply:

ROCK FAN HERE...

Not sure if you're a musician to even ask that.

See, in music, there's what we call melody %26amp; rhythm. Rap/hip hop, for the most part, is primarily rhythm-based.

As for subject matter, seems you've only been exposed to the crap on MTV/BET. The *good* stuff that has social value is underground %26amp; out of the public eye....

Btw, rock really comes from the blues...
Reply:Yo, cracker! What be yo' problem? For schizzle if I evah catch yo' white as$ in Compton, I be gonna get all Neanderthal on you.

Rap is considered music for the same reason that ebonics is considered language. Because, we are told, it is racist to think otherwise. But hey, keep voting for democrats!
Reply:it music because people relate to it and find inner mos peace. even if the artist is crap is the people who decide is music
Reply:You tell me and we will all know. I totally agree with you. All they rap about is drugs, f------- this person and this person. It's so annoying. It drives me crazy. And it is a very very bad influence on kids. I hope to god my kids don't grow up listening to the crap. I want my two girls to grow up to be country girls known as REDNECKS.
Reply:1. It has rhythm (a lot)

2. It has melody (a bit)

3. It has rhyme (quite a bit)

4. It has lyrics (a lot of good ones, a lot of lousy ones / like any other music)
Reply:Alright I am a major Marilyn Manson lover and I really agree with what your saying. But you may be going about this the wrong way. I mean, Rappers, even if their music is crap, make money and mostly they're just trying to make a living like everyone else. Don't hate 'em cause they're different. Hate them because they agree with abortion or same sex marriage. Crap that matters. Musik just goes in one ear and out the other. Broaden your horizon man.
Reply:Actually rap has been around for a while. It just wasn't called rap. It bloomed into it. People have been "rapping" in songs for a long time. It started out as Hip-Hop. Think back. Grand Master Flash - The Message ring any bells. He was Hip-Hop but by todays standards it is rap. To call all rap lyrical manslaughter is a bit narrow minded. Every band/group/solo artist sells out to make it big. That's how it works. Originally, a lot of it conveyed messages to help end hate crimes. It has changed quite a bit. Will Smith is considered a rapper and doesn't cuss to sell his records, but I guess not everyone is that talented these days. The comment you made about it all being identical is how I feel about modern "rock." All these "emo" bands. WTF? Fall Out Boy, Death Cab For Cutie, and others all have a uncannily similar sound, but they still sell and all they are doing is whining about things. If I wanted to listen to that I'll hit up some Cure or something. Listen to some straight out blues when I'm in a funk. And it wasn't always rock. It was swing and big band and what happend to rock when disco hit? The top album sales of all times is actually classified as a country album, The Eagles. Check it out at Billboards all time sales lists. Not all rap is bad, not all rock is good. It takes all kinds to make the world just like it takes all kinds of music for all those peoples.
Reply:its not
Reply:Because Abraham Lincoln screwed it up for the rest of us, If it wasnt for that guy Rap music woudlnt even be apart of today's life, Thanks alot Abe!
Reply:I don't understand people like you, I really don't. You can choose to dislike the genre because it doesn't appeal to you, but no .. you keep on that thread and denounce the entire genre. *rolls eyes*

Rap is music, whether you happen to like it or not. The people, like you, who say it all sounds the same, haven't bothered to listen to enough of it to know any better.
Reply:Well I am not much into rap, I do like Toby Keith's rap (talk about me song is a good one!) and some of the country stuff there doing these days....

If one knows anything about music then that person should know that rap has been around longer than country, rock, blues, pop etc.

Todays rap is not to much different then what they did century's ago. The wording is different and how they do it, but basically it is the same.....

The rap that is done with NO other instruments but the mouth and hands, feet produce is pretty cool to see, this is talent.....and has been around longer then musical instruments......

Sending messages through song has been used even in the southern slave days to send messages of the underground railroad etc.

I think you are talking about todays rap music....
Reply:uh, yeah, there is definetly a formula for the rappers. Obviously they rap about "badboy" stuff to sell, 99% of these posers havent done what they rap about, and probably dont even know anyone that has. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL

Childhood music effect on Current music choices?

What was the music that you remember listening to as a child?

Are you still drawn to that music now?

How did it help shape the music preferences that you have today?

~Mine~

Early on growing up, I was kind of at the mercy of what my mom listen to. Music was pretty much always on in the house or I was in front of the stereo with my over-sized head phones staring at Albums covers.

Off the top of my head:

Queen

Beatles

Pink Floyd

Elton John

Led Zepplin

The Who

Billy Joel

ZZ Top

Steve Miller Band

Kansas

John 'Cougar' Melloncamp

Teenager ~ completely rejected earlier music and tended toward hip-hop and pop crap. Ended up into the grundge phase by the end of it.

College ~ Jam bands and local rock bands, and started listening to classic rock again.

Now ~ I'm pretty much all over the board, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the music as I heard as a child though.

Childhood music effect on Current music choices?
Besides the radio being on ALL the time at my house as a little kid in the 70s, my parents played lots of records. So I was exposed to calypso, reggae, 70s top 40, 60s/70s R%26amp;B %26amp; *some* rock.

For me, rock came along a bit later by watching reruns of The Monkees. After that, I discovered the Beatles.

Teens- discovered prog rock %26amp; still love it.

recently- indie rock

So I guess now, my ears are quick to pick up on (almost) any band delivering melody, vocal harmonies, %26amp; catchy hooks, or more complex music that prog rock often delivers.

That stayed w/ me to this day.
Reply:Well right now im 16...

but when I was younger, like 5 - 12 I listened to country and oldies(mostly oldies)

then around age 13 I got into the whole pop/rap scene like all the MCR type things(what a waste of time) till I came to my senses near the beginning of last year(age 15)

Now I listen to a combination of Indie, Ska, and Folk bands(Bright Eyes, Streetlight Manifesto, Bayside) plus some screamo and hard rock (Silverstein, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold)

I am kind of moving into the oldies a bit here as well but keeping it as an equal with the modern bands i like.
Reply:I always would listen to whatever my parents played. That consisted of: Tom Waitts, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doobie Brothers, Bob Marley, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Buffett, Josh Groban, The Eagles, Pat Benatar, ZX Top, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, James Taylor

Yeah, I'm still drawn to that stuff. I have it all on my ipod and listen to them from time to time. They attach so many memories for me and I can't help but to listen.
Reply:My mom never let me listen to rock musics %26amp; heavymetal but she loved oldies blues.

Teen- My mom %26amp; dad did not allow any rock music at home so Jazz

College- I can stand up for myself but I prefer Blues/Jazzy music.

I remember listening to Spice Girls, MLTR, Robbie Williams, Boyzone %26amp; Backstreet boys when growing up.
Reply:As a kid i was into mainstream pop music like Backstreet Boys, Shakira,Michael Jackson..

I am glad i have got over that period :)

But i guess im still drawn towards more to melodic-edged music :)
Reply:I loved Micheal Jackson in 9 -- celine dion in 11 / britney 13/ avril lavigne 15/ evanescence and linkin park 17-18 and now I prefer mild music
Reply:That's interesting, cause my Dad is really into classic rock and country music, and I'm into Punk Rock. There are a lot of parallels.
Reply:when i was a kid it was either late 80's or 90's music or when my parents would listen to music it was led zeppelin or the beatles or the beach boys, stuff like that... and i remember listening to the song summer breeze by seals and crofts, alot, and i really like that song now.

pre-teen - pop... Nsync, backstreet boys, britney spears, etc.

early teenager- rock... three days grace, linkin park, stuff like that

at the moment (not in college yet, im 17), i like all types, mostly rock and i love classic rock, but i like some hip hop and rap but not alot,

classic rock is my favorite and i love the songs that i remember listening to when i was a kid, like stairway to heaven%26lt;3
Reply:I remember listening to a lot of pop-jazz (Harry Connick, Jr) and some classic rock when I was a little kid (The Beatles, Rolling Stones). I never jumped on the Spice Girls bandwagon, but I was a boy band fan for about a year...then soundtracks by John Williams took over, followed by Howard Shore, and finally I began listening to rock with Queen. I listened to more classical in high school, supplemented with a healthy dose of Celtic music (traditional and modern), along with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein before jumping straight into classic rock.

My music tastes are about the same now, mainly rock with some good orchestral/instrumental stuff thrown in.
Reply:As a kid, I was influenced by my older sister who listened to the Monkees, The Beatles, Gary Puckett %26amp; the Union Gap, Three Dog Night, etc. I do remember songs from the radio like Spill the Wine by War and of course the most played song at that time, American Pie by Don Maclean.

However, as a young teenager, thank god for my older brother. When he would visit home from the army, he would hand me music to listen to. People like Santana, Rod Stewart, The Allman Brothers, David Bowie, Crosby-Stills-Nash and sometimes Young, The Grateful Dead. I still am very influenced by these musicians today. My 2nd oldest brother, who always had a strange sense of humor, indroduced me to the likes of Frank Zappa, Fireside Theater, Monty Python (yes, these guys were on albums). His friends introduced me to Pink Floyd, Herbie Hancock, Yes, etc.

As a single mom, I took an interest in what my daughter listened to and believe me that was hard. She liked a lot of rap and such but as a parent, I had to be active in her interests. I listened to Eminem, DMX, Insane Clown Posse, etc. I just wanted to be able to tell her my concerns about that type of music. How their talk of women wasn't what she should follow. But I never took her music away. Zappa taught me that music is expression and expression are words. If you don't like them, it's okay. But don't censor!

I still listen to the music of the older rockers but my nephew has introduced me to some great bands like Mars Volta, Karate, Elliott Smith and such. It's fun to discover new musical sounds even though my friends don't like it. And I have to admit that over the years, I have become a real metal head too.

In closing, I will leave with some words from David Crosby. "Everybody's saying that music is love. Everybody's saying it ya know" :)

Yet again, you are trying to get us to do your homework for you. NO!!
Reply:I agree. Do your own homework!

I'd also like to have a word with your teacher. some of these multiple choice questions and answers are bad.

1. they are usually one movement though there are a few exceptions.

3. is just a bad question as it requires a far too general answer for which there are many exceptions.

6. doesn't offer you the correct answer. There are several composers that are better choices who are not on that list.

19. This question is just ridiculous. only one of the answers is a term even used to describe contrapuntal motion.
Reply:The EXACT same people have answered as the people who answered your other question -

"Do you own homework!"

"We won't do your homework!"

"Will you do your own homework?"

So now you've wasted 30 points for people to tell you to do your homework.

EDIT:

Now there's two more answers - and guess what, those exact same people told you to do your own homework on your other question too.

It takes less time just to use a search engine!!! Why don't you just do it? Nobody's going to do it for you!! I thought that from all the other answers on other questions you've asked, you could've figured out to just do it!!!
Reply:1-20 drop the class. In the future at least post your answers so we can agree or disagree and talk about the validity of the actual questions.
Reply:Lord all knowing of everything 'cept music, it would have taken you less time to do a web search than to type up the questions.

... good luck with that.
