Rock music and African American Americans?

My friends are giving me a hard time about liking rock music!

when we talk about music they r like " you listen to rock music!?" then they whisper "rock music is for white people" ok im not white and i happen to love rock music. i mean just me cuz i dont like most rap music, dosent mean im not black. i mean cant i be at peace being black and liking rock music?! geez!

Rock music and African American Americans?
No one have the right to restrict any one from listening to any kind of music, those people you're talking about is just being discrimative - racist and colourist to be precise - and I'm 1000% againts that... (I'm with you sister)

What they'r talking about, Rock for White and Rap for Black is derived from the history, the origin of those music where Rock are from British and Rap are from the the Afro American.

I would say, "So what if that so...?!?!?!"

Latin-Jazz are from the Brazil - the red skin, does that mean the white restricted from listening to it? most of the New-Age are from Asia - the yellow skin, etc...

I'm nothing againts the white - i'm not a racist and I don't discriminate - but i againts those racist, those colourist, those discriminator of any kind.

Did they know that the gospel music they sung in Charismatician Church are from the Afro-American Church?

Btw, I'm Asian - Chinese - and I'm with you my sister...

Is anyone would tell me that i'm restricted from listening to Rock, Classical, Jazz, anything? What if i still listen to it, you wanna cut my ear or my troath, something else?

Hope this help

Bless You
Reply:You can. I'm a white guy who sometimes listens to rap. I was one of the only white guys in high school who even heard of Public Enemy, let alone go to the concert. I gotta say that I don't talk like I'm in a rap group, though. Not like that d-bag Justin Timberlake.

While I was at the PE concert, Chuck D and Flava Flav slapped my hand while on stage. I didn't get any crap from anyone else for being the 'honky' in the crowd.

In sum, I think the opposite should be true. Enjoy the rock music.
Reply:People are used to comfortable stereotypes, don't feel bad for not fitting in. That just makes you more interesting. Besides, think about Jimi Hendrix, he's one of the greatest guitar gods and he's african american. Rock is not just for white people.
Reply:Your friends sound a tad bit narrow minded! I am a fifty nine year old white woman and I love rock music. I also like country and yes, even some hip hop and rap music. For real. You can like what ever you want. You're not forcing THEM to like what you like so why should they insinuate what you SHOULD like! Like I said, your friends are very narrow minded! I hope they get over it! Play some Robert Randolph and the Family Band for them. That might help! "Ain't Nothin' Wrong with That" is great. And have they ever heard of Jimi Hendrix? Woo boy are they narrow minded!! :o)
Reply:I see no problem with it, I can not stand rap either, give me anything else and I am fine.
Reply:tell them to stop hatin', music is life, music is for everyone, there are no rules. people think blacks are only supposed to like rap and r%26amp;b. your friends obviously don't have any culture. they probably think art galleries and museums are "White Only" also.
Reply:yes you can be at peace! what your friends are doing id caled STEREOTYPING!!! i had a friend that was half black half jewish (true story by the way!) and she loved rock music! i mean she was hardcore!! just because you look one way doesn't mean you're not! i'm italian and i hate pasta!! i'm annoyed with pasta! doesn't mean i'm not italian! what you are is your blood! not what you like!
Reply:hey, more power to ya, rock is awesome. Try going old school, with hendrix or something =]

be yourself, they're probably just jealous
Reply:i see know problem with it... u can like whatever music u want
Reply:if they think of you like that then there not your friends at all you dont need them your friends should criticise you cos u listen to rock music
Reply:thats pretty racist of your friends to say! i dont see a problem wih a different culture listening to whatever type of music they want. everybody listens to rock! its like saying only chinese people eat chinese food. everybody eats chinese food!
Reply:rock is for everybody. nobody should listen to rap. rock is for blacks, whites, mexicans, anyone. that's why rock is special. the singer of killswitch engage has black in him. race isn't anything. keep with rock. don't change to rap.
Reply:I couldn't agree more. Listen to whatever you want, don't conform because the masses tell you to. Do your thing girl.
Reply:You know, my daughter's best friend gets picked on by both her family and friends for that very reason. .....I do not understand why any particular music is associated with one specific "age" or "gender" or "race" ....that is just silly.

I'm originally from Texas but currently live in Minneapolis, and people always say, "ah...so you like country music, right?" ....NO...I hate country music and always have.

You like what you like! You wouldn't try to make them change their preferences to suit you, would you? There's your answer, Sweetie....be good to yourself.

Best of everything! :~P
Reply:Tell your friends that they are the reason that stereotypes are being kept alive and that they are contributing factors of why white / black barriers can't be broken down. Btw- you listen to whatever YOU want to , never give in to peer pressure of any kind.
Reply:I think your friends are stupid for giving you a hard time about liking a certain type of music, just because they don't think it's 'right' for a non-white person to listen to it. It's probably the same with non-black people who like hip hop or R %26amp; B. But it's not about race, it's about how the music sounds to you. Besides, look at Jimi Hendrix, the rock musician, he was black. You should tell them to stop being so superficial. It's ridiculous to like a certain type of music just because you're a certain color, and dislike other types of music just because they're associated with another color.
Reply:you dont have to be a certain skin colour to listen to different types of music. i listen to both rap and rock. If i hear a song I like, i listen to it
Reply:i love rock too! it can be weird at times, but it is mostly cool. my friends do the same thing, and it's like, get a life pal cause rock is for everyone.

i have 'black parade" as my ringtone and they always call me gay for it.whatever. do you like p!atd? i love them, they are awesome

p.s did you see the music video for "black parade" y My chemical Romance? that video is tight. i like some rap too = )
Reply:Yiour friends are speaking out of ignorance, which i guess isn't so surprising as it's about a subject that happened probably long before their parents were born . . .

ROCK MUSIC WOULD NOT EXIST IF IT WEREN'T FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!

Rock music was the first area in which white teenagers as a whole embraced the work and talents of black artists, and most of the outcry of the rock-hating white establishment in the 1950's was centered on the fear that rock music would break down the social and economic barriers between blacks and whites, allowing blacks to mix and mingle freely and equally with whites. The actual King Of Rock'N'Roll wasn't Elvis Presley, it was Chuck Berry - Berry was writing and singing songs that every young person could relate to and identify with - and the powers that be were scared (so scared that they threw him in jail on a trumped-up charge in 1959).

Every innovation in rock music has come directly from black artists - from Motown to Hendrix to Sly to . . . aw heII, look it up yourself, and then tell your friends what's up ! ! !
Reply:OMG thts WICKED retarded...thts like ughh! no offence but thts like saying to a white person "why are you listenin to rap?" "rap is for bllack ppl"

ughh! you dont listen to them you can listen to WHATEVER you want your color or race has nothing to do with it! you just listen keep listening to what what makes you happy! i love rock too...but im not black but all im saying is ROCK ON!!!♥
