Music, Music and more music?

I was looking for some new music to listen to now that summer has begun. I am not into really harcore, screamo music. I dont like Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Green Day or Cartel. Here are some bands that I am into now and you can base your remommendations off of these: Elliot Smith, Rocky Votolato, Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos, Cary Brothers, Dear and the Headlights, Senses Fail, Saves the Day, Minus the Bear. What I am really looking for is musicians. Some good, indie musicians. Nothing too mainstream. Just some indie, awesome music. The only reason I like indie music is because I am a bit older and I like to go to shows in small pubs and just chill, have a beer while listening to some good tunes and not have all these teeny boppers around. If anyone else can understand thats great and if you have any suggestions as well for somet good band/musicians please by all means share. Thank you.

Music, Music and more music?
I am going to check into the bands you have up that I haven't heard of yet and expand my answer (you may have just given me a couple new things to get into), but I'm a huge Elliott Smith fan. Some things I would throw your way are:

Stephen Malkmus, he was the singer of Pavement who went solo a few years ago and has released 3 records. He's a great songwriter and he seems to fit the description that you wrote. I would seve Pig Lib for last if you get into him. Either the first or third are great choices (Pig Lib is really good too, but is the least accessible of the three).

Belle and Sebastian are really wonderful. Depending on the record you get they offer a variaty of really nice sounds. If You're Feeling Sinister is a grass rootsy, 60s rock type record with a kind of late 90s sensibility, The Boy With the Arab Strap is a bit more with it's time and in itself offers a variety of song types (it's probably my favorite). I would recommend any of their records (probably except for the Storytelling soundtrack to start with (that one has a couple of good songs, but isn't really a Belle and Sebastian record).

More to come after some investigation...
Reply:the artic monkeys, the wombats, the pigeon detectives, maximo park, goodshoes, the white stripes
Reply:Check these out:

Copeland; The Clientele; Death Cab For Cutie; American Analog Set; Teitur; Josh Rouse; Sufjan Stevens; Grizzly Bear; The Cinematic Orchestra; Mice Parade; Great Northern; Pilot Speed; This Will Destory You . . . ; Maps; Mute Math;

These are kinda mainstream but they're new albums are killer! : Travis and Thom Yorke

and if you feel really daring, check out Battles! the most progressive music i've heard. the drumming is mind-blowing.

I forgot! Owen is awesome. Also with the band American Football and various others.Alot of the bands that come out of Militia Records are great. I have friend who plays for The Umbrellas, who are also very good.

By the way, thanks for some mentioning some of those bands. I'd never heard of Rocky Votolato. cool stuff. Also, Matt Pond PA? Sea and Cake? Sam Prekop?
Reply:Saosin, Circa Survive, and The Format (i think they are indie)

anyways, they are all really good. if you check them out, you dont need to check out Saosin AND Circa Survive cuz they sound very similar to each other.

if you do check them out, and like one of them, check the other one out too.....

good luck!
